And in a recent a win for spam fighters everywhere: New guidelines in Google Maps via Google My Business says that “posting negative content about a current or former employment experience” is no longer allowed, as it is considered a conflict of interest. Google publishes a policy for Google My Business reviews here.
So if your old employees want to bad mouth you, at least now you can flag and then clean it up with Google.
Conflict of Interest
Maps user-contributed content is most valuable when it is honest and unbiased. The following practices are not allowed:
- Reviewing your own business.
- Posting negative content about a current or former employment experience.
- Posting negative content about a competitor to manipulate their ratings.
This is also a warning to business owners about leaving a review on GMB locations that you are Owner on. Google does keep track of requests and also even asks if you are an employee or agency when requesting access to a page. So keep in mind that you have an IP footprint and Google is all about fighting spam. This also goes for buying reviews that are posted from the same IP location.
If have concerns about how reviews impact your business or need some tips on getting more reviews, just move your hosting and we don’t mind saving you the trouble!
